LEARNING CURVE is a high school concept designed to engage in an architectural dialog with an existing elementary school to it’s East, at 51st and Homan, and to continue to inspire the potential of the surrounding Gage Park neighborhood. The curved structure is sliced open to embrace downtown views, invite community participation and mark a gateway to a proposed academic campus to its’ north. The building rises in a coil form, from one social space to the largest programmatic volume: the Multi-purpose room – a double height volume that is offset from the building center to further express itself architecturally by a vertical rhythmic pattern of solid and void on the exterior.
LEARNING CURVE was one of two finalists in a widely held design competition for UNO and was designed to achieve LEED silver. The 61,000 SF proposal was a Fast track, Design/Build delivery method with a GMP of 16.7 million dollars, to be constructed within a 10 month timeline.
